At Empathic Engineering, we often talk about systems for improving communication, decision-making, and problem-solving at work. But one of the most overlooked systems is the one that supports all the others: our nervous system.
Executive functioning skills like emotional regulation, organization, and planning depend heavily on our ability to slow down, reflect, and reset our mental state. For many professionals in technical environments, that reset rarely happens.
That’s why we collaborated with Michelle at Té Amo Tea to offer two herbal tea blends designed with intentional support for executive functioning.

Té Amo is a small herbal tea company that began as kitchen experiments shared with family and friends before growing into a collection of small-batch blends focused on wellness and enjoyment.
Together, we chose two teas that align with two core executive functioning skills:
Abracito for Emotional Regulation and Flower Power for Organization Skills.
Both blends are caffeine-free herbal teas designed to create small moments of reflection during the day... whether before a difficult conversation, during focused work, or while planning your next steps.
Abracito: Tea for Emotional Regulation
Ingredients: Dandelion Root, Lavender, Marshmallow Root, Oatstraw, Stinging Nettle
The name Abracito means “little hug.” The intention behind this blend is to support moments when your nervous system needs grounding—before a stressful meeting, after a long day, or during emotional overwhelm.
Several of the herbs were selected specifically for their traditional calming and restorative properties.
Dandelion Root — grounding and digestion
Dandelion root is often used in herbal traditions as a grounding herb. Its earthy flavor and support for digestion make it a common choice in teas meant to help people feel centered and physically settled.
Lavender — calming the nervous system
Lavender is well known for its relaxing aroma and ability to support emotional calm. It’s frequently used to help reduce tension and create a sense of ease.
Marshmallow Root — soothing support
Marshmallow root is valued for its soothing qualities and its ability to create a gentle, comforting tea.
Oatstraw — nourishment for the nervous system
Oatstraw has a long history in herbalism as a mineral-rich plant traditionally associated with supporting the nervous system and restoring energy.
Stinging Nettle — strength and vitality
Nettle is a nutrient-dense herb rich in vitamins and minerals. In many herbal traditions it is considered strengthening and supportive for blood circulation and overall wellbeing.
Together, these herbs create a soft, grounding tea that encourages s l o w i n g d o w n...
something many professionals forget to do.
Flower Power: Tea for Organization and Clarity
Ingredients: Burdock Root, Chamomile, Dandelion Root, Elder Flower, Ginger Root, Hibiscus Flower, Lemon Balm
If Abracito is about emotional regulation, Flower Power is about mental clarity and organization.
This blend was designed to accompany activities like journaling, planning, or mapping out priorities.
Burdock Root — clearing and balance
Burdock root has traditionally been used as a cleansing herb, often associated with helping the body maintain balance.
Chamomile — calm focus
Chamomile is widely known for its calming properties and can help create the relaxed mental state needed for thoughtful planning.
Lemon Balm — clarity and mood support
Lemon balm has been used historically to support mood and cognitive clarity, making it a natural fit for a tea focused on organization and mental flow.
Ginger Root — gentle stimulation
Ginger adds warmth and circulation, creating a subtle sense of alertness without caffeine.
Hibiscus and Elder Flower — brightness and vitality
These flowers add both flavor and a vibrant color to the tea while contributing antioxidant support.
Together, these herbs create a bright and energizing blend that pairs well with intention-setting, planning sessions, or morning reflection.
Why Tea and Executive Functioning?
Executive functioning is not just about productivity tools or task lists. It begins with regulating the nervous system and creating space for thoughtful decision-making.
Small rituals can play a surprisingly powerful role in this process.
Taking five minutes to steep tea:
• signals the brain to pause
• shifts the body into a calmer state
• creates a moment to reconnect with intention
In technical environments where speed and output dominate, these pauses are often the missing ingredient.
Tea becomes a micro-system for regulation and clarity.
Engineering Better Human Systems
At Empathic Engineering, we believe strong teams are built not only through better processes, but through better self-awareness.
Sometimes that system starts with something as simple as a warm cup of tea.
